Setting targets way into the future is an easy thing to do, but as the time passes it eventually becomes clear that these targets are not achievable. The Scottish government is the first to reach this point:

It won't be the last! There are some completely ridiculous targets which have been set by councils. Obviously they are not as high profile as governments, but they deserve to be shown up for making such barmy claims.
Climate models are flawed and now even the experts are admitting as much. So why should the world's governments trust them?

I know there are some people out there who say there is no debate. Everything is settled and we now simply have to stop emitting CO2. That is simply unscientific. Science works by looking at all the evidence, not just the bits which appear to support one particular argument. If any facts don't fit then a theory is wrong. On that basis the idea that CO2 controls the world's surface temperature is wrong, and yet there is no discussion in the main stream media about this. Here is a link to the video:
This is quite a long interview with Adrian Hayes at 55 minutes but the main focus on his climate change views starts at 20 minutes in. His gradual realisation that the idea of CO2 controlling the world's temperature is far from certain is interesting and came after doing a detailed investigation. It is a journey that quite a lot of thinking people have made. What made this interesting for me was that I know Adrian's family, they were neighbours of mine.

Apparently Switzerland produces 0.1% of world CO2 emissions, so any policy it enacts could not possibly have any measurable effect on the climate even if they eliminated all CO2 emissions tomorrow. The court's decision is completely irrational - the complete opposite of what a court should be.
There is also the point that it is weather which gives rise to heat waves and there have always been periods of uncomfortably hot weather and there is nothing that can be done to stop it.
Those who are truly concerned for the environment and who also believe there is a climate emergency must be in a complete quandary over the use of solar panels and what happens to them at the end of their life. The following linked article gives details of the problem.

A group of elderly women claimed they were vulnerable to heat waves! Has the world gone mad, I ask. There is no explanation of how they convinced the court that heat waves were increasing and this was definitely due to man made CO2 emissions. I have no doubt there will now be dozens more of these crackpot cases, costing tens of thousands in lawyer fees. I hope the UK will now leave this court which seems to have extended "human rights" way beyond what was originally intended when the court was set up.

The UK government are very keen to try and make out that renewable energy is cheap. However the reality is the opposite is true and the public will find out, no matter what they do to try and hide it.

Here is another excellent video which refutes the many alarmist fears which are commonly put forward as reasons for stopping the use of fossil fuels and trying to reach net zero.
The Climate Intelligence Group, known by the name Clintel, originated in Holland but is now international and is responsible for organising the World Climate Declaration which concludes that there is no climate emergency. This has been signed by hundreds of leading scientists, as well as many unknown ones like me. The link below is a good summary of the strong arguments for the case against a climate emergency, which are rarely mentioned in the mainstream media. I recommend it to all those with an open mind on the subject. There is much other interesting material on the website as well.
If anyone believes that the third world is ready to sacrifice its prosperity in order to reach net zero should watch the interview in the link below. There is no way that the world's oil reserves will remain in the ground while there continues to be so much demand for it and such fabulous wealth obtained from it.

You will note that he pays lip-service to the climate change emergency by blaming the rich nations for causing it, yet he has no intention of sacrificing his own countries wealth to stop it. He probably does not even believe in it himself. But luckily for him he can use the third world "get out of taking responsibility" card. Whereas the "rich West" must take the blame and pay up until a leader emerges who dares to say NO.
Here's another reason why renewables are unreliable. They are much less resilient to the weather.
The inference being that temperatures were somewhat warmer at that period which rather undermines the current climate alarm.

This extraordinary event occurred in January 2022 when the Hunga Tonga volcano erupted. While there was some sulfur dioxide associated with Hunga Tonga, the main impact was from water vapor. Water vapor is a potent greenhouse gas, so the sudden 10% increase in stratospheric water vapor in a single day increased stratospheric opacity to outgoing infrared radiation. Unlike the lower troposphere, where the greenhouse effect is relatively saturated, the stratosphere, well above the Earth’s average emission altitude (about 6 km), experiences a much more pronounced effect from the addition of water vapor. Also, the increased stratospheric water vapor content enhances infrared emissions from the stratosphere, thereby cooling it significantly.

Campaign group Net Zero Watch has welcomed the announcement by the Scottish Government that they are considering legislating to water down their Net Zero targets.
Net Zero Secretary Mairi McAllan told Holyrood that, having set themselves a legally binding target of cutting carbon emissions by 75% by 2030, she and her officials were now considering a variety of options to address the impossibility of actually delivering, including legislation.
Welcoming the move, Net Zero Watch director Andrew Montford said: "Politicians across the world have set ruinous, utopian targets that are impossible to deliver. Ms McAllan is the first to publicly face up to reality, but she won't be the last. We have reached the high water mark for Net Zero."
Ms McAllan's humiliating climbdown came after a damning report from the Climate Change Committee (CCC) said that the 2030 targets are now "beyond what is credible" to be achieved. Chris Stark, the CCC chief executive added that "there is no plan to hit it".
Electricity will be effectively rationed by price in order to try and match demand with supply, which is essential with intermittent renewables becoming the dominant source of electricity.

The culprit was free-market industrial capitalism. The solution was higher taxes and more regulation. From the start, the climate alarm appealed to, and has been adopted and promoted by, those groups who favour bigger government.
This is the unspoken political divide behind the climate alarm. The climate scare appeals especially to all those in the sprawling publicly-funded establishment. This includes the largely publicly-funded Western intelligentsia, for whom climate has become a moral cause. In these circles, to criticise or question the climate alarm has become a breach of social etiquette.

Also shipping declines to zero by 2049. What planet are they on I hear you say. This would mean a drastic decline in imports and exports. A permanent recession. What would the population find to do, other than riot to get rid of the government who led them to this.
It was in December that I first reported on the fact that in some districts the public were starting to attend council meetings to give a sceptic point of view on climate policies. I have just checked again to find that this trend seems to be continuing as more disliked policies are being introduced like 20 mph zones and the closing of certain roads to reduce car use,

The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), who is a little known off shoot of the UN, has published a report without mentioning that we should all be eating less meat and instead turning to bugs as an alternative. Is this a victory for our farmers? If so then it just shows what causing a bit of agro can do.
Members of the public have a wide range of views and in this short video we see two expressed. Clearly a few people are very involved in campaigning for and against net zero. Most are not, but once they start to realise the true cost then I think we will see a few more sitting up and asking questions.
A South Korean professor of environmental science speaks out in a country where to do so is rare and takes great courage. As more senior scientists break cover it allows others to question the proposition that the "science is settled".

One thousand nine hundred scientists have signed the World Climate Declaration, which says that the current claim that CO2 is causing catastrophic climate change due to global warming is false. Of course the mere number of signatories does not "prove" anything, other than there is a serious body of opinion which disagrees with the claim. However, there are some people who deserve to be listened to more than others due to their high level of achievement and the latest signatory clearly comes into that category. I am honoured to find myself agreeing with someone who has such a brilliant mind.
Although I do not expect the country to reach net zero for the reasons stated in previous posts, we will nevertheless spend a great deal of money in trying to get there. In doing so we will miss out on a number of other important measures we could have done instead which would have made a big difference to the lives of many of us. Below is a link to an interesting debate in the House of Lords which looked at the heat pump policy and its cost implications.

"My Lords, the Minister kindly referred to the social housing decarbonisation fund, but there are something like 2.7 million homes owned by the social housing sector, with a projected cost of £36 billion to decarbonise them. Does he recognise that the fund is far too small to deliver that, and if so, what extra support will be made available to housing associations for them to achieve this for their poorer tenants?"
Even that estimate of £36 billion seems extremely low as it only works out at £13,300 per house, whereas other estimates Are much higher at around £25,000 per house. But look at the huge sum to be spent on heat pumps and other measures to achieve net zero and then think about what this means for the future housing provision for those who need it. This vast sum will not be spent on building new homes. Instead it will all go to save a tiny bit of CO2 emissions with nothing to show for it.
Yesterday I pointed out that the Prime Minister has at last realised that net zero would not be possible. In this article that same point I made has been made by Gordon Hughes writing in the Daily Telegraph. See below:
"Mr Sunak, writing in the Daily Telegraph, said new gas power stations were needed to have a reliable and affordable back-up for days when renewables like wind and solar did not deliver."
But he can't yet admit publicly that this means net zero is not achievable, so he then goes on to say, "It is the insurance policy Britain needs to protect our energy security, while we deliver our net zero transition." Read the BBC report here:

The article reported a claim by Sir Chris Llewellyn Smith, who led a recent Royal Society study on future energy supply, that the CCC had privately admitted that it made a “mistake” when it only “looked at a single year” of data showing the number of windy days in a year when it made pronouncements on the extent to which the UK could rely on wind and solar. farms to meet net zero targets.
In a presentation delivered on Oct 31 2023, Sir Chris said: “By looking at one year you underestimate storage and you grossly overestimate the need for everything else. That’s exactly what the Committee on Climate Change have done.”
He added: “The Committee on Climate Change, as I already said, looked at a single year and they have conceded privately that that was a mistake. But they are still saying they don’t differ that much from us. Well, that’s not quite true.”

Those who claim our modern climate is changing faster than at any time in the past will be shocked to read this study:
"New research published in Nature Geoscience (Grieman et al., 2024) assesses the elevation of West Antarctica’s ice sheet fell by ~480 m within just 200 years from about 8,000 to 8,200 years ago, a drop of more than 2 meters per year.
The scientists also document an ice area retreat of 270 kilometers at the study site within only 400 years, from ~7,300-7,700 years ago. That’s an area retreat rate of about 675 meters per year."

The only evidence for actual warming of the Earth's surface comes from temperature measurements and yet when the actual position of the thermometers is examined it is often found to be seriously badly sited and so the measurements themselves are unreliable. In this video this is again discovered in the USA.
A large majority of the UK Met Office temperature measuring stations have been graded as practically useless according to a Freedom of Information answer. Over 29% were in the lowest classification possible, meaning that measurements could vary by as much as 5 degrees Celsius. Another 48% could be out by 2 degrees. And yet the Met Office claim that records have been broken by as little as 0.1 degrees. It is completely scandalous and yet the mainstream media will be likely to completely ignore this and the vast majority of the public will carry on being duped.

James Woudhuysen: Net Zero is a war on the working class
Spiked, 27 February 2024“Another year of rapidly rising emissions in 2023 leaves China way off track against its target of cutting carbon intensity by 18 per cent between 2021 and 2025,” said Lauri Myllyvirta, lead analyst at the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA). “As a result, carbon dioxide emissions would now need to fall by 4 to 6 per cent by 2025 to hit the goal.”
So the rulers of the West buy their transformers, solar panels and wind turbines from The Coal Giant, while pretending they sincerely want to reduce coal use. And the populace buy their cheap t-shirts, lemon squeezers and avocado-slicers (and their fridges and freezers). And no one in polite society suggests sanctions or boycotts. (No one suggests “checking the science” either). Everyone wants their cheap stuff.
The whole thing seems to be a giant charade, except that we are facing a cut in living standards to attempt to reach net zero.
Net zero and all that goes with it is causing pain for thousands of small businesses as the article linked above testifies. These extra burdens are causing headaches and costs which must either be passed on in increased prices for consumers or reduce business profits, causing many to become uneconomic. Time for a re-think.
They refuse to retract because it would be too damaging. It is not about the objective truth but about their image and the "cause".

One of the most prominent campaigning icons to attract attention to the "climate change" issue is the plight of polar bears, and yet on close examination all the stories of these bears being wiped out are completely wrong, as can be seen when the facts are shown. We could put restrictions and tariffs on Chinese solar panels, or electric vehicles, but how can we do that when we have legally mandated targets to increase the share of alternative energies and motor vehicles?
The price tag is already fearfully high, and we have miserably failed to build up the capacity to make our own equipment at competitive prices. If given a choice between net zero and economic success, our politicians are disturbingly clear which takes precedence.
It’s the same story throughout the economy. We have allowed energy prices to soar, planned to close down our own offshore oil fields, and held back the growth in fracking even as it has delivered economic booms in North America.
We have ignored the fact that these choices are putting companies out of business – and are allowing Chinese rivals with far lower power costs to trample all over European businesses.
The harsh truth is that China has weaponised net zero, and turned it into a way of seizing industrial leadership. America is responding, admittedly perhaps too late, and with too much state control. But Europe and the UK have been left floundering, and their industry is about to get wiped out. Read it all here:

As 2050 draws nearer we are going to find that the green activist groups, supported by vast sums of money from wealthy backers will be trying to force the government to take more and more drastic measures to get to the mythical net zero. Having done the "easy" measures first which have not impinged directly on the bulk of people's lives, they are now facing the things which will cause real hardship and real resistance will develop. This ongoing court case is the most recent example:
It will be interesting (though painful) to see how this plays out. If the activists win their case, which is quite likely, how will the government respond. If they bring in more draconian laws curbing the freedom of the public, bringing forward large taxes on popular activities, they know they will become very unpopular. The only other way is for the government to amend or repeal the Climate Change Act. I think this latter course is, ultimately, the only way forward.
These massive sums being paid to windfarms are rising year on year as the grid becomes more unstable. You might think this would set alarm bells ringing among government ministers, but apparently not. Short term thinking seems to over shadow common sense.

The dependence on intermittent forms of electricity has opened up a new market for short term supplies to top up the shortfall. Diesel generators are one type, but they are obviously not the preferred choice so a new type is to use a system consisting of an array of solar panels which charge up a bank of batteries. They can command a high price for the electricity which makes it a good investment. This is another reason why renewables will inevitably lead to highly priced electricity.

Is it any wonder that the public believe that storms are becoming more intense, even though the official Met Office information says this is not true.
London, 13 February – The UK Met Office has been accused of seriously misleading the public about climate-driven storms in the UK.
Putting Isha into context, a senior meteorologist from the Met Office has explained that the "more intense" storms the UK is experiencing are caused by climate change.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast, Claire Nasir said: "In 2023, we began on a rainfall deficit and had two intense heatwaves, yet the UK saw the 11th wettest year on record."
She explained this shift between extremes in weather patterns in the UK would continue in the future.
I thought the Chinese were building a lot, but that is a staggering figure, because India is also building a lot too. It makes the UK efforts to decarbonise at great cost to our prosperity seem like a drop in the ocean.

The next big change that governments are already trying to bring in is to drastically reduce the number of livestock on our farms under the pretext of the false claim that these animals are causing global warming due to their farts emitting methane. This is going to be devastating and will have no effect according to the latest scientific research, which is being ignored.

In the lecture Dr Sheahen focuses on the work of Professors Will Happer and William van Wijngaarden in their pioneering work in calculating the real-world Global Warming Potentials (GWPs) of the five most common Green-House Gases (GHGs). He emphasizes how their calculations have now been precisely verified by satellite measurements, thus validating their research. These results verify the actual low GWPs of these GHGs, and, in particular, of the irrelevance of the impact of Methane on climate. The results have profound implications, particularly for agriculturally based economies like those of Ireland and New Zealand. He will conclude that there is no scientific basis for regressive agricultural policy; on the contrary, global food scarcity should dictate its further development. Here is the link:

Dr. Thomas P. Sheahen holds BS and PhD degrees in physics from MIT. Dr. Sheahen is author of the textbook, “Introduction to High Temperature Superconductivity.” He has authored numerous papers on topics including infrared Fourier spectroscopy for rocket re-entry instrumentation, and harsh industrial instrumentation. His work includes analysis of measurement economics, research program plans, industrial energy conservation and renewable energy technology.
